At RetroSpecced, we believe every pair of glasses deserves a second chance.
We recently were delighted to receive a generous donation of 225 pairs of frames from the fantastic family-run team at Spex4Less. The donation included a wonderful mix of brand-new unused frames, sunglasses, children's glasses and even some complete with prescription lenses.
The majority of these frames will now begin a new journey to Malawi as part of the next shipment with The Zikomo Trust, where they can help people gain access to eyewear that would otherwise be unavailable.
In the optical industry, styles naturally change, collections are discontinued and back-stock can easily end up forgotten. While many of these frames are still in perfect condition, they may no longer have a place on the shelves. Rather than allowing them to go to waste, donations like this give them a meaningful new purpose.
Interestingly some charities are only able to accept spectacles fitted with prescription lenses, meaning perfectly good empty frames can often be overlooked. By working together, businesses across the optical industry can help ensure these frames continue to make a difference instead of ending up in landfill.
A huge thank you to everyone at Spex4Less for their generosity and support. It's a brilliant example of how independent optical businesses can work together to reduce waste, support sustainability and help improve vision for communities around the world.
Are you an optician with discontinues stock of surplus frames? We'd love to hear from you. Together, we can help ensure perfectly usable eyewear reaches people who need it most.
