Springing through the ages

Springing through the ages

Can you believe that we’re already halfway through spring?! Summer is around the corner and the world is looking a little brighter every day.

We want to celebrate the start of May - and the bank holiday weekend! - by telling you about some of our amazing frames, the story they’ve been on and how they can have you feeling like the end of chaos and cold weather is in sight.

Now that we’re allowed to meet up with friends and drink a nice cold pint in the sunshine, there has never been a better time to treat yourself and go out and celebrate!

So let’s take a step back in time and go on a journey through the ages to see if we have the perfect pair of glasses for you…

1940s

That’s right. Some of our frames are as old as 80! Whether they’ve been worn and loved or kept brand new in their packaging for over half a century, we have a range of wise old frames steeped in incredible history. Reminiscent of Hepburn and Monroe, these cat-eye frames are to die for and are sharp enough for a day at work but also cool enough for an adventure with friends in the sun.

1950s

Continuing on into the 20th century, the 1950s was associated with success and growth in light of the post-war boom. Economic expansion brought about crisp, distinct and monochromatic frames that were sophisticated and ideal for the city worker or commuter.

1960s

Whilst pointy, cat-eye shapes are often associated with the 60s, the rounded metal frame - sported by one John Lennon - should not be forgotten. There is a reason that rounded spectacles have not gone out of fashion. They are simultaneously professional and fun - check out this beautiful antique gold pair!

1970s

The bigger the frame, the bigger the fun! The 1970s was all about funky silhouettes and big statements - and it was no different for eyewear! Outfits were bold colours were warm and autumnal like Suzie below.

1980s

Before we reach the end of our little Retrospecced history lesson, we cannot forget the 80s. This decade was all about partying the night away and living life to the full. These oversized frames are such a product of their era; with their bold oranges and gold flecks, these wonderful frames really do bring back memories.

We hope that this little journey through time has given you a better idea of the glasses that we sell and the stories they have to tell!

We pride ourselves on giving beautiful vintage pieces a second chance.

The frames we sell were made to last and they deserve to be loved, styled and worn in new ways and in new eras.

Celebrate the May bank holiday and get yourself a pair of glasses steeped in history!
