Old Frames, New Futures: Our February Donation to Zikomo Trust

Donated glasses and sunglasses in the UK collected by Retrospecced for eyewear charity donations

Four Boxes. Hundreds of Frames. Real Impact.

This February, we loaded up the car and dropped off four large boxes of donated spectacle frames to Zikomo Trust- and honestly, it never gets old.

Old frames. New futures.

We've written before about donating eyewear, but this one hits differently. Why? Because the need hasn't slowed down - if anything, it's growing. And because in a world obsessed with the new, the fast, and the next, this is a reminder that what already exists still has serious value.

Why Donated Glasses Matter

Millions of people worldwide live with avoidable sight loss simply because they don't have access to glasses. The frames we collect - the ones you might think are "past it" - help restore vision, independence, education and livelihoods.

That's powerful.

At Retrospecced, we see glasses as more than accessories. They're tools. And when they still have life left in them, they deserve to be used - not buried in landfill.

Community Support Makes It Possible

This February donation wouldn't have been possible without the wider community getting behind what we do. Alongside frames collected by Retrospecced, we were proud to include additional donations from Sight for Wight and The Ravens Trust, helping us fill every box and extend the reach of this delivery even further.

It's proof that collaboration really does multiply impact.

What We Accept (Yes, Sunglasses Too)

As we look ahead to boosting donations through 2026, we want to make this crystal clear:

We accept:

  • Prescription glasses
  • Non-prescription glasses
  • Sunglasses
  • Ready Readers
  • Vintage, modern, designer or everyday frames
  • Children's glasses and sungalsses

If they're intact and wearable, they can help someone else see the world more clearly.

Circular Fashion, Real-World Impact

This is sustainability in action. Reuse over waste. Impact over impulse. A circular approach that benefits both the planet and people.

Every box we donate represents hundreds of small decisions made by people choosing to give, not discard. And those choices ripple far beyond the UK.

Looking Ahead

Our February donation is just one moment in a much bigger mission. We'll continue collecting, refurbishing, donating and advocating - and we'd love you to be part of it.

So next time you're clearing out a drawer, updating your prescription or switching styles, don't throw your old glasses away.

Donate them.

Let them see more of the world.

And help us make 2026 our biggest year for eyewear donations yet.
