World Sight Day is here and it's an important day for us.
We are motivated by sustainability and providing our customers with funky and unique glasses, but we are equally as driven by the movement towards improving eye health on a global scale.
What is world sight day?
World Sight Day is an annual event that strives to tackle the global issue of eye health. This year it falls on 14th October and the theme is #LoveYourEyes, and we're here to tell you all about it.
As the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness states: 'Eye health impacts education, employment, quality of life
Not being able to see holds so many back. Whether old or young, our eyes should not be overlooked.
'This World Sight Day we want organisations and the public to come together to encourage governments, corporations, institutions and individuals to actively support universal access to eye health and ensure that everyone counts.'
This is a movement that we are very much behind here at Retrospecced, so we would love it if you - our wonderful customers - could play a part too.
Let's get involved!
Getting the world seeing more clearly might seem like a daunting prospect, but there are several ways we can help.
You can MAKE A PLEDGE and contribute to IAPB's goal of getting 1 million people to have an eye test. Tell your neighbour, your mother or your colleague to head to the opticians and keep an eye on their eyes!
What's more, you can take part in IAPB's photography competition. Get creative and submit a photo of your interpretation of this year's theme. Across the world, people are taking part and it's fantastic to see.
Whether it's booking an appointment with your local optician or speaking to daughters, sons, nieces or nephews about the importance of monitoring their eyesight, play a part in world sight day this year!
The gift of sight
We work with some wonderful charities taking action across the globe, collaborating with Vision Aid Overseas and the Lions Club International. We donate 20% of what we sell each frame for to the charities, and this is split equally between them. They help to provide people with eye tests, free pairs of glasses and training for future opticians.
It is an honour to be associated with such fantastic organisations actively striving to get the world seeing. Just have a read of some of these stories and learn about the work VAO and the Lions Club International are doing.
Who would have thought that purchasing a pretty pair of spectacles could have such an impact!

Seeing with a difference
This World Sight Day, the message that what we want our customers to take home is that glasses don't have to be a mundane affair. Getting your eyes tested is important and can entail a pretty dull trip to your optician. However, if you know where to look, it can also be an exciting and empowering venture.
Ensuring that your eye health is tip top and buying yourself a pair of vintage glasses is a treat and a luxury that many don't have access to.
So go and get your eyes checked out and have a look on our website if it's a new pair of glasses you need to get you seeing clearly!
