A Guide to Choosing the Perfect Glasses

How to choose the perfect glasses

When it comes to purchasing prescription glasses, it can be a bit of a minefield, particularly when ordering online for the first time.

We want you to love your new glasses which is why we have created a handy little guide, to help you find your new dream glasses.

Finding the right pair of specs, can change your whole image. Glasses don't just help us see the world, but they affect how the world sees us.

Do you understand your prescription?: Do you need your glasses for distance or reading? Is your prescription complex, so you may want to consider thinner lenses? It is good to ask your optician when you have your eyes tested, and gain an understanding about your prescription, and what all those numbers really mean.

But don't worry, if you're not totally sure about your prescription and want help from us, we are always here for you.

Understand your prescription

Frame Materials: Glasses frames come in a whole host of materials, but are generally divided into acetate (plastics) or metals. In regards to the fit of glasses, most plastic frames have a fixed bridge, whereas metals tend to have adjustable toggle pads. Some people can have allergies with metal frames - so they need to stick to either plastics or Titanium frames, which are hypoallergenic, lightweight and strong.

Face Shapes - What Shape Glasses Suit my Face?: This is a biggie!! Get the shape wrong and it can ruin the look. The first thing to do is to make sure you recognise your face shape. Are you familiar with the shape of your own face? Once you know your shape the glasses tips below will make finding a frame easy.

What glasses suit my face shape

Round Face: Angular frames (rectangular or square) can add definition. Avoid round glasses.

Square Face: Round or oval frames soften strong angles.

Heart-shaped Face: Cat-eye or rounded frames complement a wider forehead and narrower chin.

Oval Face: Well you are the lucky ones. Oval faces can wear most frame shapes, so experiment with different styles.

Proportions and Fit: The fit of glasses not only affects the look, but the comfort of the glasses too. Nobody wants uncomfortable glasses. If your glasses are too wide they can make your eyes look close together, we want your eyes to sit central in the frames. Our size guide has lot's of information here, in relation to how we measure the glasses. It can be worth measuring a pair of well fitting glasses to compare.

What Colour Glasses Suit Me?: So we have the shape right, but we're not done there. The colour of your glasses can make or break they appeal. We want you to shine, in your new glasses. Think about your skin tone, hair colour and personality when choosing new glasses. Do you want to stand out from the crowd? If so go bright and bold. If you want a more timeless look choose neutral colours such as black, brown mottles or your classic metal frames.

Lifestyle: Get glasses that work for you. Do you need strong and durable frames due to your occupation? Or small children that love to grab glasses? Maybe you spend a lot of time on the computer and would benefit from a blue light blocking coating? Or work outdoors and need UV protection. Think what you want to achieve with your new glasses
