Celebrating Green Friday at Retrospecced

What is Green Friday and why do Retrospecced and their sustainable eyewear support it.

At Retrospecced, sustainability isn't just a buzzword, it's at the heart of everything we do. Focused on reducing waste and giving new life to preloved eyewear, we proudly support Green Friday, as a meaningful and ethical alternative to the madness of Black Friday.

What is Green Friday, and why does it matter? Well here is why we embrace it and how it aligns with our mission to make eyewear more sustainable.

Green Friday began as a movement to counteract the consumerism and environmental impact of Black Friday. So we all know that Black Friday encourages overconsumption, often leading to waste and unnecessary purchases. My personal inbox has been bombarded with emails offering discounts for weeks now gearing up to Black Friday. Well Green Friday focuses on mindful shopping, sustainability and giving back to the planet.

So instead of promoting relentless discounts, which are often not even a good deal, and impulse buying, Green Friday encourages consumers to think about the environmental and social impact of their purchases. For small businesses like ours, it is a great opportunity to share our values and promote thoughtful, planet-friendly choices.

At Retrospecced we're on a mission to make eyewear more sustainable by up-cycling vintage and preloved glasses into fabulous reusable products. If a product has life left to live, then let it live, don't send it to landfill. If your own glasses need new lenses, no need to get a new frame, we can reglaze it for you.  We won't ever offer Black Friday discounts, to tempt shoppers into purchasing. Green Friday is about making the most of what we have, creating a more circular economy where reuse and repair are prioritised. That is the heart of Retrospecced.

By supporting Green Friday, we're part of a broader movement, encouraging people to shop sustainably.  Whether you are shopping for upcycled sustainable glasses,  supporting other ethical brands, or just shopping at your local charity shop, your choices contribute to a greener future.

Let's think how we shop and make better choices moving forward. Join us in supporting Green Friday and the values it represents.
